Allow SRO 24 paramedics to rejoin to fight Covid-19: Rana
4/24/2020 11:01:40 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 24: National Conference Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana today urged the administration to look into the grievances of protesting para-medics, engaged under SRO 24 in Government Medical Colleges at Kathua, Udampur and Rajouri, saying their services could be productively utilised as frontline workers to combat the pandemic of corona virus.
“We, like the people in other parts of the world, are passing through a most difficult and uncertain phase due to spread of virus and dispensing of the services of health workers at this crucial time is not perhaps advisable”, Mr Rana said while referring to the protests of the terminated para-medicos for the past few weeks, adding they could be allowed to continue till some via media is found to address to their pleas.
Rana said this has become imperative as the governments in various states of the country are requisitioning the services of retired personnel in the health sector to meet the challenge, those engaged here have been shown the door. While these frontline heroes are being celebrated for their significant role in fight against the invisible enemy to humanity, the hapless SRO 24 para-medics cannot be pushed to protest, he said, hoping that the administration will take a call, keeping in view their plight as also need of their services.
The Provincial President described the retrenchment of those engaged under SRO 24 in the present situation and prevailing circumstances as harsh and anti-youth, saying this needs to be reviewed, keeping in view the burgeoning unemployment problem in Jammu and Kashmir. Being professionals in a specific field, those engaged under this SRO have nowhere to go, especially in the absence of organized medical sector.
The government, he said, should take a considerate view on the issue and allow the para-medics to rejoin their duties, till such a time, a well defined policy is evolved to provide jobs to trained para-medicos.
Rana said he has been getting frantic calls from aggrieved para-medics, who are feeling pushed to the wall and want justice. He hoped the government will allow the terminated para-medics to rejoin for effectively combating Covid-19, he urged.
