Positive cases of COVID-19 reach 454 in JK as 20 more persons test positive
109 persons recover; five casualties in the union territory so far

SRINAGAR, Apr 24: Twenty (20) more positive cases of Corona Virus came to the fore from the different districts of Kashmir today. As a result of this, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 has reached 454 in the union territory.
Reports said that fresh cases were reported from Bandipora, Shopian, Kupwara and Baramulla districts of the Kashmir valley. While nine cases were reported from Bandipora district, Shopian, Kupwara and Baramulla districts accounted for five, four and two cases respectively.
With 27 fresh cases the positive cases of COVID-19 have reached 397 in the Kashmir valley while as the number is 57 in the Jammu division. As on date Kashmir has 301 active cases of Corona Virus while as in Jammu the number of active cases is 39. This means that there are 340 active cases of COVID-19 in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 27 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), all from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 454. The media bulletin has included seven cases that were reported late in the evening on April 23.
“Out of 454 positive cases, 340 are active positive, 109 have recovered and five have died. Furthermore, till date 65,722 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which includes 6,162 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 260 in hospital quarantine, 340 in hospital isolation and 11,970 under home surveillance,” said the bulletin.
The bulletin said that besides 46,985 persons have completed their surveillance period. It said that out of 11,764 test results available, 11,310 samples have tested as negative till April 24, 2020. Moreover, 17 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged, five from District Hospital Shopian, four from SKIMS-Soura and eight from GMC, Baramulla.
“Bandipora has 108 positive cases wherein 85 are active positive, 22 recovered and one has died, Srinagar 79 positive cases with 51 active positive, 27 recovered and one died, Baramulla 52 positive cases with 38 active positive, 12 recovered and two died and Shopian has 60 positive cases with 49 active positive, 11 recovered,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Kupwara has 45 positive cases with 39 active positive and six recovered; Anantnag district has 16 positive cases and all are active positive; Ganderbal has 14 positive cases with 12 active positive and two have recovered; Budgam 14 positive cases of which five are active positive and nine recovered cases; Kulgam has six cases and all are active positive; Pulwama three positive cases who all have recovered.
Similarly, Jammu has 26 positive cases of whom 21 are active positive and five have recovered, Udhampur 20 positive cases of which 11 are active positive, eight recovered and one died, while as Samba district has four positive cases and all are active positive; Rajouri has four positive cases, one active positive and three cases have recovered; Kathua has one positive case which is active positive; Ramban has one positive case who is active positive. Meanwhile, Kishtwar has only one positive case who has recovered.
Meanwhile, according to the advisory issued in the media bulletin, it urged people not to step out of home, unless absolutely necessary. “If you have to move out for unavoidable reasons, ensure that you wear a mask and practice social distancing, personal hygiene and frequent hand washing.”
All social, religious and other gatherings are strictly prohibited, reads the advisory. Advisory said that COVID-19 can affect anyone and if it does, it is healthcare heroes who heal us. “They risk their lives to protect us. It is on us to respect and protect our healthcare workers.” People, the advisory said, must avoid close contact with anyone that has fever and cough and in case anyone develops fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice promptly.
