Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 24: Early Times’ investigative journalism was once again vindicated on Friday when Jammu police revealed the details about how a Sarpanch and his brother tried to implicate a family in murder case.
The Early Times on March 4 this year had carried a new story under the headline, “Gharota Murder Case: family of arrested brothers smells conspiracy”. The news report had revealed that (accused) Sarpanch Dalveer Singh and his brother Shankar Singh tried to implicate a family in Gharota murder case of February 25.
SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil while addressing media persons here today said, “This is a rarest of rare case where a criminal conspiracy was hatched to falsely implicate persons to settle political scores with Naib Sarpanch and his family; land disputes with Neelam Singh and to put pressure on a complainant of sexual harassment case (Balveer Singh and his sister).”
Patil said that on 25 February 2020, a case was registered at Police Station Gharota under section 302/307/429/458 IPC and 3/27 Arms Act. “It was reported that Sodagar Singh (Naib Sarpanch Barn), his other brothers including Chanchal Singh @ Baba Chanchal alongwith Ràjan Singh, Neelam Singh and few others barged into the house of Sarpanch Dalveer Singh of Barn at mid night and started indiscriminate firing resulting on-spot death of Kashmir Singh (cousin of Sarpanch) and injuring Sarpanch and his sister Geeta Devi”, he said.
“A pet dog of Sarpanch was also killed on spot. On this report, a case FIR No 19/2020 was registered and investigation was undertaken by Insp Rajesh Sharma, SHO Gharota. During the course of investigation, alleged accused persons including Naib Sarpanch Sodagar Singh, his other eight brothers including Baba Chanchal were arrested”, he said, adding that the alleged accused persons were put to sustained interrogations, Polygraphy Tests and other legal discourses.
In the meanwhile, a SIT was constituted headed by Vinay Sharma, SP South Jammu, along with other members viz Diwakar Singh DySP SOG Jammu, Insp Parveiz Sajjad (SHO PS Channi Himmat), Insp Rajesh Sharma (SHO PS Gharota) and ASI Sunil Singh.
“During the course of investigation, all evidences were put to scientific analysis, witnesses were reexamined. Inconsistency in the statements of eye witnesses (all members of Sarpanch family), scientific evidences collected indicated lot of suspicion on the story narrated by Sarpanch and his family members”, the SSP said, adding that more scientific analysis further casted doubts on complainant family and they were put to sustained questioning.”
“During the questioning Shankar Singh (brother of Sarpanch) confessed a deep conspiracy hatched by Sarpanch, his brother Shankar and other family members and further confessed of killing his own cousin Kashmir Singh and injuring Sarpanch and sister Geeta with non fatal bullet shot injuries”, the SSP said.
“On the disclosure of Shankar Singh, weapon of offence alongwith cartridges was recovered. All three Co-conspirators i.e. Sarpanch Dalveer, brother Shankar Singh and Sister Geeta were arrested for hatching criminal conspiracy and murder of Kashmir Singh”, he said.
Meanwhile, another person named Suram Singh (Baba Suram) of Barn was also arrested u/s 201 for fabricating false evidences to mislead the investigation of this Sensational case. “Soon the arrested (innocent) persons will be released, as the matter is subjudice, the releasing order will be issued by the Court
According to the sources, the Sarpanch also misled that court, when Police started investigation the order side of the story. “SDPO Akhnoor was removed from the investigation, as he was investigating the same part of story, as proved by the SIT”, sources said, adding that the Sarpanch backed by Baba Suram Singh tried is best to misled the investigation, but finally the truth prevailed.
