Protesters threatened to incase the authorities didn’t released due wages, they will stop working and go on strike. “We will not work if the authorities didn’t release our wages,” they threatened.
“We don’t have money to purchase soap and other items for our safety. While we put our lives at risk to keep cities and towns clean the government isn’t considering our genuine demands,” they said.
Chairman Municipal Council Anantnag, Hilal Ahmad Shah admitted that employees were working with salaries from last five months. “It is true, employees mostly sanitation workers are working without salaries. Their demand is genuine and government must pay them,” he said.
He said that Government was releasing just 86 Lakh rupees per month to Municipal Council Anantnag for salaries of its employees but the council requires 1.15 Cr monthly.
“Our CPW’s are working without salaries from last 28 months,” he claimed and said that Government must release money to Municipal Council Anantnag so that the people who work on frontline during pandemic are paid.
