Early Times Report

Anantnag, May 10: In another tragic incident, a 25 year old pregnant woman from Manzmoo Village of Qazigund died at Maternity and Child Care Hospital Anantnag on late Saturday evening.
Family of the deceased lady alleged that she wasn’t ‘treated well’ at Government Medical College Anantnag by the doctors and was “discharged in a hurry.”
“On 7th May, my cousin (deceased pregnant lady) developed some issues in chest. We put her on a palki and brought her to Emergency Hospital Qazigund for treatment. From Qazigund, doctors referred us to Anantnag District Hospital (Now Associate Hospital of GMC Anantnag) for treatment,” Parviaz Ahmad told Early Times over phone. He alleged that the doctors at Government Medical College didn’t treat the deceased pregnant woman and discharged her in a ‘hurry’.
“On 8th evening we were told to go home and her pregnancy wasn’t due. Once we reached home the deceased developed labor pain. On 9th of May, she (deceased pregnant woman) delivered a dead baby,” Parvaiz said.
“We again took her to Qazigund Hospital for treatment and it took us few hours to shift the patient to the hospital as the area isn’t connected with a road,” he said,
At Qazigund, according to the family, they were provided an ambulance and referred her to Maternity and Child Care Hospital Anantnag. “At MCH Anantnag doctors told us that we haven’t reached well in time,” they added.
Family alleged that the doctors at Government Medical College Anantnag didn’t conduct the tests. “They should have conducted tests and shouldn’t have discharged the patient in a hurry,” the family alleged.
Principal, GMC Anantnag, Dr Showket Jeelani told Early Times that he will respond after going through the medical history of deceased patient.
Doctors at MCH Anantnag told Early Times that the patient was ‘brought dead’ at around 6pm in the evening. “As per the COVID-19 protocol a sample was taken for conducting test and the body was also wrapped and later handed over to family for last rites,” they said.
Important to mention here, this is third death in Anantnag district since the lockdown. Earlier pregnant women from Kharpora and Salia died in the hospital. Both the cases are under investigation as the families alleged ‘medical negligence and ill treatment.”
