With 26 fresh cases positive cases of Corona Virus in JK reach 861, 469 are active positive

SRINAGAR, May 10: The positive cases of Corona Virus reached 861 in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir as 26 more persons tested positive for COVID-19 today. While 23 cases were reported from Kashmir division three cases came up from the Jammu division.
Reports said that fresh cases of Corona Virus were reported from Kulgam, Srinagar, Shopian, Baramulla, Kupwara, Anantnag, Jammu and Kathua districts of the union territory. While Kulgam reported 10 cases, Srinagar reported five cases followed by Shopian three cases, Baramulla and Kupwara two cases each with Anantnag, Jammu and Kathua districts reporting one case each.
Following today’s fresh cases the number of positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir reached 861. As 383 Corona Virus patients have recovered so far and nine others have died, the number of active cases in the union territory is 469. While there are 454 active cases in Kashmir number of such cases in Jammu is 15.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 26 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), three from Jammu division and 23 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 861.
Out of 861 positive cases, 469 are active positive, 383 have recovered and nine have died. Moreover, 15 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals of Kashmir division. The bulletin said that out of 47,080 test results available, 46,219 samples have tested as negative till date.
Furthermore, till date 93,344 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 21,760 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 177 in hospital quarantine, 469 in hospital isolation and 9,615 under home surveillance. Besides, 61,314 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Srinagar has 136 positive cases with 57 active positive, 76 recovered, three deaths; Bandipora has 134 positive cases with 58 active positive, 75 recovered, one death; Anantnag district has 123 positive cases with 119 active positive, three recovered, one death and Baramulla has 108 positive cases with 60 active positive, 45 recovered, three deaths.
“Shopian has 103 positive cases with 52 active positive, 51 recovered; Kupwara has 73 positive cases with 31 active positive, 42 recovered; Budgam has 46 positive cases with 33 active positive and 13 recovered cases; Ganderbal has 23 positive cases with nine active cases and 14 recoveries; Kulgam has 31 positive cases with 26 active positive and five recoveries and Pulwama 13 positive cases with nine active positive, four recovered,” said the bulletin.
Udhampur has 22 positive cases with two active positive case, 19 recovered and one death; Samba has seven positive cases with three active positive and four recoveries; Rajouri has four positive cases who all have recovered; Kathua has three positive cases with two active positive cases, one has recovered; Kishtwar had only one positive case who has recovered while Ramban and Reasi have one active positive case each.
As per the advisory, the people have been informed that stigma around COVID-19 can discourage people to take necessary steps to fight the virus. “Break the stigma; encourage patients to come forward for COVID-19 testing if they develop symptoms, as early detection of COVID-19 can prevent the spread of disease. Not disclosing symptoms like fever, cough and difficulty in breathing could put life of individuals and their families at risk.”
As a measure for social distancing in public places & workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory. Advisory urged people not to step out of home, unless absolutely necessary. “If you have to move out for unavoidable reasons, ensure that you wear a mask and practice social distancing, personal hygiene and frequent hand washing with soap and water.”
