Where is Tasaduq Mufti?
Late Mufti’s lone son goes missing from JK’s political scene
5/10/2020 11:46:49 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 10: Former Tourism Minister and PDP chief’s brother, Tasaduq Mufti, disappearing from the political arena of Kashmir has given rise to many questions- primary among them is whether the lone son of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is still a PDP man or not.
Since the day, PDP- BJP government fell apart in J&K on June 19, 2018, Tasaduq Mufti went missing from the scene. As per the party insiders he didn’t attend party meetings or any of the rallies that PDP held after its coalition partner BJP pulled the rug.
After the coalition fell apart, Tasaduq went into oblivion and became invisible. His sister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti later admitted that to bring Tasaduq back from Mumbai to Kashmir and making him a minister in her cabinet was a mistake.
In a detailed chat with a New Delhi based news channel, Mehbooba had stated that she felt all alone after her father passed away on January 7, 2016 and she sank into an emotional trauma. “Calling Tasaduq from Mumbai to Jammu and Kashmir was entirely my call. It is me who should be blamed for it and no else. However, I would like to tell you that when my father passed away, I felt all alone and that is when I asked Tasaquq to return and help me out. Me and my father used to work as a team,” Mehbooba had said in an interview.
The former chief minister had said that Tasaduq was in a much better position outside J&K and him becoming a minister didn’t accord him any undue benefit. “He is one of the best cinematographers in the world. He used to earn no less than Rs 4-5 lakh every day,” Mehbooba had said, adding that her brother is an artist with creative and sumptuous imaginations and confining him within J&K was injustice.
Earlier, Tasaduq was fielded as party’s candidate for Lok Sabha polls in 2017 during the by polls. However, the elections were postponed and later called off due to the law and order issues in the parliamentary constituency.
Mehbooba then witnessed a growing resentment within and outside her party over the favours she accorded to her close relatives. She was even being termed as a “nepotist” and her party as “family democratic party” instead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
With many serious and important political developments taking place in J&K since 2018 Tasaduq seems to have gone into oblivion. Post August 5, last year when J&K special status was scrapped and mainstream leadership bundled in jails, Tasaduq maintained the stoic silence. He did not issue a even single statement on the prolonged incarceration of his own sister Mehbooba Mufti.
