Yes, dead people receive pension in Baramulla | | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report Srinagar, May 19: Serious cases of embezzlement in centrally sponsored schemes in Social Welfare Department (SWD), Baramulla, have come to the fore. The cases include those wherein old age pension has been withdrawn in the name of dead persons, as per documents available with Early Times. For example, one Rahimi, wife of Ghulam Hassan Sofi of Badibug village of Baramulla, had passed away a few years ago. However her husband, who enjoys some political clout, continues to receive pension of Rahimi under account number SB-4704. This is despite the fact that officials concerned in the SWD are aware of Rahimi's death. One Ali Muhammad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir, according to sources has creating many fake accounts to receive monthly allowances under different schemes. The documents reveal that Mir himself is only 35 but receives old age pension under account number SB-6102. Besides, Mir has also created another fake account in the name of his wife namely Fareeda who like her husband receives monthly allowance of Rs 400 as old pension under account number SB-1723. It's not the end of the story. Mir also receives monthly allowance of Rs 500 as a handicapped person through an unknown account despite the fact he is a healthy person with no disability. According to the details, one Rehman Bhat, son of Muhammad Bhat of Kanterbug village died a natural death few years ago. But like many other families his family has been receiving old age pension under his name though they have good economic conditions. Another man Fayaz Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rehman Dar, is only 35, and according to the guidelines of SWD he is not eligible for the monthly old age pension of Rs 400. "Fayaz has good political connections and like many other influential people he receives old pension (under account number SB-6523," said the sources. One Muhammad Ibrahim Wani, son of Ali Muhammad Wani, has been shown as resident of Kanterbug village. According to sources there is nobody bearing this name and parentage in Kanterbug. Yet, a fake account was created by some officials in league with political workers of the area to nab old age pension. Crossing all the limits of fraud, one Abdul Rehman Parray has created a fake account and has shown his mother namely Zeba as his wife in the records to receive Rs 400 as widow fund under account number SB-1221. Meanwhile, when contacted Minister for Social Welfare, Asiya Naqash said that she will seek details from SWD officer Baramulla on Wednesday and will take strict action against all those found involved in wrongdoings. |
