Mobilisation of security forces begins in six poll bound constituencies in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 9 : With polling to take place for the Jammu-Poonch constituency on Thursday mobilization of security forces in Jammu and Kashmir has begun. Official sources said that after the end of polling in Jammu-Poonch constituency several companies of paramilitary forces were to be shifted to Udhampur,Kathua and Kishtwar-Doda belt where the polling is due on April 17. According to these sources about 330 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in Jammu and Kashmir for ensuring incident free election process.Since there are over 9633 polling booths in Jammu and Kashmir deployment of 330 companies of central paramilitary forces were inadequate to ensure incident free poll despite the fact that a big state police force was to provide assistance in law and order maintenance. It is in these connection companies of security forces were to be rotated from one constituency to another. This was done because of the high number of critical booth s in various constituencies. In the Kashmir valley out of total number of 4780 polling booths 4059 have been declared critical requiring heavy deployment of security forces. Similarly the number of critical or highly sensitive polling booths are more in Udhampur constituency than in Jammu constituency.Official sources said that sensitive areas in parts of Udhampur,Kishtwar and Doda districts were to be kept under heavy security cover. Though the Army has been told to keep an eagle's eye on the LOC and the IB for foiling ingress bids by militants some companies of troops were to be kept on the stand by to meet any eventuality during campaigning and polling. |
