Out of 155 kanals land, only 50 kanals in college possession | GDC Basohli seems a distant dream | | Bivek Mathur Jammu, Apr 9: Acquistion of land for the construction of Government Degree College (GDC) Basohli has become a subject of research as Department of Higher Education has failed to acquire the total land it has shown in its possession. According to sources, the Higher Education Department is claiming to have acquired 155 kanals of land for the construction of GDC Basohli but it has only 50 Kanals in possession actually and whenever it is asked from any quarter about the transfer of rest of the land, the usual reply is-"The matter of transfer of land is taken up with Deputy Commissioner Kathua". Interestingly the Deputy Commissioner Kathua Jatinder K Singh himself is unaware of the status of the land which this newspaper came to know after Singh was contacted telephonically. Pertinently Higher Education Department has shown that about 32 Kanals and 13 Marlas as private land, 119 Kanals and 08 Marlas as Shamilat land and about 03 Kanals and 11 Marlas as State land acquired for the construction of college and is claiming for the last many years to transfer full land to the college but has failed to do the same due to reasons best known to the department. According to reliable sources, it is only 50 Kanals of land which is in possession of college infact which was donated by about 18 families of village Teerdi for the construction of GDC Basohli and on the rest of the land, there stands one construction with agricultural land around. |
