Jammu, Apr 9: Come elections and Minority Cell of ruling National Conference gets agile to shed crocodile tears over the plight of Kashmiri Migrants living in various camps of Jammu. As the party is now shifting its entire focus on three seats of Kashmir valley, the Minority Cell led by Anil Dhar is seen in active mode meandering in KP concentrated areas- an exercise aimed to appease political bosses in having as much community voters by the side of party for Lok Sabha elections. The Minority Cell leadership is simply wooing the KP voters as a part of electoral campaign, instead creating a wedge between the community by pepping up anti PDP, anti BJP and even anti RSS propaganda, which doesn't at all count for Valley seats.
The minority Cell president Anil Dhar who is in coterie of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's right hand man and NC's Jammu Provincial President Devinder Singh Rana is learnt to be on job of garnering as many votes for the party, which he is doing using means true to his party's style and strategy. Politically well connected in the rank and file of the party as also in power corridors, Dhar in order to keep his bosses in good humor is leaving behind even his seniors in the party in catching up to potential voters. Sources said that in the game of one upmanship which is existing in the minority leadership with atleast three to four claimants from the KP community for this post began with Dhar's proximity to high command, which he has been managing to influence through many ways.
Sources further said, Anil Dhar who IS far more smarter, shrewed and calculated than ex Chief Secretary Vijay Bakaya and a couple of other KP leaders in the party who have spent decades in the party, has pushed them aside conveniently with moves which never catch the eye of even the party leadership. Though Bakaya managed to become MLC soon after he joined party, but in actual terms Dhar is more powerful and in a position of call shots on account of proximity with Rana and other couple of leaders quite close to Omar. This strategy is getting reflected in the present scenario as well, sources said, adding that it is a virtual war of nerves in the minority cell leadership ( community leaders with NC), who are sort of bidding mode to secure as many votes in favour of NC candidates. Pertinently, KP votes in many segments matter and can turn out to be decisive in favour of any candidate in the event of low voter turnout to boycott call.
However, sources said the voter wooing exercise in some areas by NC Minority Cell president is falling flat and may prove counter productive for the party for certain reasons. The KP voters are asking the leaders bluntly as what makes them visit the camps now and rake up issues like power curtailment and other burning problems when it shied away from even looking into issues despite being in power. The NC Minority Cell has seldom raised issues of the community with the Government over the last five years, not even during the course of agitations over various crucial issues, sources added. The vote garnering tactics by the president has not augured well with KP voters also for the fact that he is trying to whip up the anti PDP and anti BJP propaganda when a sizable number of community people have already made up mind and openly siding with either BJP or PDP. |
