Sewing machines recovered from NC Sarpanch's house, PDP cries foul | | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Apr 9: Administrative officials at south Kashmir's Shopian District recovered sewing machines from the possession of a National Conference Sarpanch which according to the sources were stocked to be distributed among people of the area in exchange for their vote. According to the details, administrative officials of South Kashmir's Shopian district today recovered at least 20 sewing machines from the possession of one National conference Sarpanch in Borihalan village which according to the sources were stocked few days back by some local National Conference workers of the area to distribute among people ahead of forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in the village which traditionally supported PDP. The details reveal a team of administrative officials of District Shopian under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner and Tehsildar of the area along with a police party raided the house of National Conference Sarpanch Ghulam Mohammad Ganai of Borihalan village and recovered 20 sewing machines from his house which were hidden in a dark room of the second floor of house. Talking to Early Times, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Shopian, Sajad Hussain Ganai said, "sewing machines recovered from the Sarpanch's premises belonged to an NGO, however, as a mark of respect to the ongoing Model Code of Conduct we took machines in our possession." "NGO namely 'Socio Economic Research Bureau' had stocked machines in the house of Sarpanch which were likely to be distributed among girls of the area, it is not good to look at the matter from political perspective," he advocated. Eye witnesses told Early Times that matter got exposed only after those who were denied sewing machines informed district administration and members of People's Democratic Party (PDP). Sources also added that process of distributing sewing machines, spray machines and other equipments among people of the area started few days back and no sooner some households of the area were denied all such goods, the matter got exposed and somehow administrative officials this afternoon managed to recover only 20 sewing machines from the possession of Sarpanch. MLA Shopian, Abdula Razak Zawoora while talking to Early Times alleged that sewing machines is just one attempt of local National Conference workers to gain public support ahead of forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, yet the reality is that at many places National Conference workers are distributing free of cost rice and other commodities among poor families to purchase votes for their candidate. "We will approach concerned officials of the Election Commission as after seeing dark future for their candidates, National Conference leadership has decided to go to any extent and today matter of distributing sewing machines is one such vote purchasing methodology," said MLA Shopian. Recently National Conference Minister and MLA Noorabad constituency of South Kashmir's Kulgam district Sakina Itoo was caught on video indulging in religious coercion. |
