Farooq swears by Srinivasan's honour, forgoes his own

Jammu, Apr 9: A day after Apex Court of the country had termed S. Srinivasan's stubborn insistence to stick on to the BCCI headship as 'nauseating', Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association Chairman and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah had declared Srinivasan an 'honourable' man, but adamancy shown by Srinivasan in choosing to represent BCCI in the ICC meet at Dubai on April 11 in violation of the spirit of the Apex Court directives has exposed the shameless yearn of self styled cricket administrators to cling on to the BCCI and its constituent units.
Farooq Abdullah, JKCA Chairman who swore by Srinivasan's honour, actually cared a little for his own, when he defied norms of propriety and accountability by choosing not to step aside after JKCA funds scam was unearthed two years back.
Like Srinivasan, Farooq defiantly held on to the chair despite scathing attack by the Opposition at a time when the Budget Session of the State Assembly was on. Desperate efforts were made to drive Farooq clean out of the muck and many within the JKCA assert that the working president and long time Farooq- NC loyalist Aslam Goni who eventually walked out of the party headed by Farooq was made sacrificial goat.
Atrociously, however, two years after the Jammu and Kashmir Police completed its investigations into the scam and established the involvement of association president Farooq Abdullah, besides other members, Farooq has still chosen to cling on to the chair of JKCA chief that ensures his place in the filthily rich BCCI. Police after exhaustive investigations had ruled out the possibility of the account being bogus, and established that senior board members were in the know of things. Sources said the evidence clearly pointed toward the involvement of Farooq in the scam.
Adding on to shame and taint to the JKCA, an RTI had revealed that the JKCA had been issuing fake certificates to the wards of its office bearers to fetch them illegal and unwarranted benefit in admissions to the professional colleges; however, even this did not stir Farooq's honour and conscience enough to ponder relinquishing the headship of JKCA.
Beyond the question of morality and honour which Farooq accredits his boss in the BCCI with, the fact of the matter is that Farooq has clung on to the Chair of the JKCA chief illegally and unconstitutionally as per the guidelines of the J&K State Sports Council, which is amusingly headed by his son and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and by Farooq himself for most part of his JKCA presidency, no individual can head a sports association for more than three terms consecutively or otherwise.
Meanwhile, by swearing by the honour of Srinivasan and compromising on his own, Farooq has ensured that he shall continue to enjoy the grubby extravagance of cricketing protocol at least for now.
