Overloading major cause that leads to fatal accidents
4/9/2014 10:46:49 PM

Kathua, Apr 9 : Overloading has resulted into several fatal accidents claiming a number of precious lives but still the practice is in full swing.
Buses and Matadors could often be seen overloaded with people hanging with door and sitting on the roof tops.
Bus and Matador operators are making money by overloading; risking the lives of innocent people but it seems as if the Traffic Police is sleeping over this important issue. There seems some understanding between the traffic police and bus and matador operators because of which the practice is going on.
Overloading is one of the main reasons of road fatalities and also causes huge damage to road infrastructure.
Despite clear directions by the government banning overloading in passenger vehicles, traffic police has failed to take strict measures against the violators.
When questions were raised, different answers were put forward by people belonging to different sections of the society.
Sunita Verma, a working lady said, "Even in the presence of the traffic police the conductors of the passenger vehicles stuff passengers inside their vehicles like animals. The men in blue do not take any action against them. And whenever any passenger complaints to the driver, they appear to be not interested. A check needs to be there to curb such an attitude."
Sanjeev Sharma, a student opined, "Overloaded vehicles are major road safety hazards. They endanger lives, properties and also cause premature deterioration of roads. It is a very risky practice and can cause fatal accidents on busy highways. No one is there to keep a check on this."
Suman, a student lamented, "It is the mini bus drivers who are making profit at the end of the day and are hardly bothered about the life of the passengers. Some drivers drive rashly on the road. The traffic cops only see them but do not take any legal action."
Kuldeep Choudhary, a student said, "The matadors stop wherever they wish to and there are no proper timings for them.
There should be a proper scheduling for the transport. Sometimes the vehicle stops in the middle of the road creating problems not only for the passengers but also for other vehicles. The Govt. should look into the matter."
