They came to study but were forced to work as 'labourers' | | | Early Times Report Pulwama, Apr 9 : In a shocking incident, students of a government school here were found working as labourers in an under-construction of school building and it was alleged that administration forced students to work as labourer instead of teaching them during school hours in lieu to get good assessment.Believe it or not, the incident took place at one of the government run schools in a Pulwama of South Kashmir where these students were found to work as labourer instead of getting education during the school timing.The Government Boys and Girls Higher Secondary School Rohomo Pulwama in the southern Kashmir is undergoing some construction work and students who come to school to study are forced to work during their study hours by the administration just to siphon the construction bills .The Higher Secondary established eight years ago is in total mess, locals said.Unwilling to be identified, some students said that they were ordered by teachers to work. "When we argued by saying that this is not our work but of laborers, they didn't pay any heed and ordered us to work," they said.The construction work in the above mentioned School is going on since last month and students are being forced to work as labourers, some locals alleged and further added, "teachers in the school haven't been transferred from four to five years." The episode came to light when a local resident witnessed students working at the under-construction site, allegedly another local. The principal of the School Shabir Ahmad Gilkar, briefly said he is unaware about students being forced to labourers. "I don't know any such thing but I will enquire the matter," he told GNS when news agency contacted him to get his comments in these allegations."Gilkar is handicapped and he often comes to the school in the afternoon at his own will, locals allegedly said. Leveling serious allegations on the teaching staff of the said school, Sarpanch of Rohoma, Ali Muhammad Dar alleged that there are allegations that teaching faculty is non-serious in particular to maintain dignity of students-teacher relations and even use cell phones during classes.Pulwama, Farooq Ahmad, told news agency that he will investigate the matter. "Whosoever be found guilty, will be punished," he said. The Director School of Education (DSE) Kashmir, Tariq Ali Mir assured action against the guilty and said, "Preliminary report from the concerned Chief Educational Officer in this regard has been sought and appropriate action will be taken against the guilty if charges are proved." |
