Samba, Apr 9: Jeed, Belian, Handad and Janda villages are glaring examples of lopsided development in Jammu and Kashmir because these four villages lack basic amenities.Ironically these villages are situated just 25 kilometers away from the district headquarters but there is no road connectivity thereby forcing people to come their destinations through tough hilly paths.
Especially children have to face enormous difficulties as they have to walk 10 kilometers everyday for school situated at Sumb. Moreover, people have to cross 1 km long basanter river to reach their destinations. Situation becomes worse during rainy season thereby these villages lose connectivity with other areas. It also has negative impact on the education of children.
Local resident Krishan Lal, Major Singh, Shakuntala Devi, Ajay Kumar alleged politicians visit these neglected areas only during elections times and they go by giving false assurances. But this time, we certainly ask questions to vote-seekers. "Even district administration never conducted a Janta Darbar in these villages", said Major Singh, a resident of village Janda.
Development of these areas became victim of prevailing red-tapism in the administration. "A couple of years back, construction of a road was started to connect these unconnected villages with link roads but Forest Department raised objection and got work stopped", said Ranjeet Singh, Sarpanch of local Panchayat. "Till then authorities have not taken any serious initiative to get the work restart", he alleged. Local MLA Yash Pal Kundal said that Forest Department has claimed right on the land and demanded to deposit the money in exchange for land and due to non availability of funds work could not start.
He added that now survey has been conducted under NABARD and PMGSY scheme to construct the road. "Under PMGSY and NABARD schemes there are provisions of funds for land acquisition. So, I am hopeful that after approval of project from government, work would be started very soon", he hoped.
