Bani view point attracting garbage dumpers than tourists
4/22/2014 11:27:20 PM
Shiv Kumar Padha

Basohli, Apr 22: The Tourism Department of the state, in order to utilize the funds, constructed a view point (now collapsed) at a distance of 200 mts. from bus stand on Basohli, Bani, Bhaderwah road in a hurried manner which can be easily judged at the first glance of the structure.
The natives of the town felt grateful for the favors of the department having dedicated such a unique structure to the tourists visiting the area.
Keeping aside the design and shape of the view point, there is no doubt about the selection of the site because one can have the view of back waters of the RSD lake and the boating taking place there.
But one can neither make head nor tail of whether the view point is constructed amidst the garbage or the garbage is heaped around the view point, as the spot meant for tourists viewing has been totally converted into the dumping site for the waste and garbage from the town by the Municipal Committee Basohli. There are dozens of meat shops near and around the bus stand which are hardly at a stone's throw from the courts of Tehsildar, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Munsiff, police station and the Sub District hospital.
The waste parts of the slain animals i.e. the bunches of intestines, feathers and skin of the fleeced chicken are seen littered around the view point, not only this the dead animals of the town are also disposed near the view point which result in foul smell and stink due the decaying till they are fully reduced to the carcass.
The road running along the streak of back waters remains live with the hundreds of men and women on their evening and morning walks.
In order to escape the stink they are compelled to cover their noses while passing by the view point.
The intestines of the slain chicken carried away by the dogs and crows from these meat shops are littered here and there around the offices and the bus stand which spread foul smell by which the families residing in the vicinity are always prone to health hazards. Many times the matter has been brought into the notice of the AEO Municipal Committee Basohli and the authorities under whose nose this all is taking place, but nothing solid in this regard has been done due to their inert behavior.
It can be easily construed that the municipal committee considers money minting more important than addressing the problems of the affected public. Before any disease or epidemic breaks out in the area due to the decaying of the dead and the slain animals, the administration of Basohli is requested to consider the situation as grave and serious and restrain the municipal committee Basohli from dumping the garbage of the town within a radius of four kms. of the town.
