As Cong 'burns midnight oil' for NC, Rahul visit to give filip to canvassing | Soz venturing into NC, PDP bastions aggressively | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 22: As National Conference is desperately trying to woo voters for the three Parliamentary constituencies in Kashmir, its ally Congress too is using all its might and muscle to help NC candidates emerge victorious. Both the parties are trying to rope in Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to visit Kashmir and canvass at least for the two seats Srinagar and Anantnag where contest is tough against rival PDP. With whatever possible and available resources, PCC president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz is making whirlwind tour of segments, even to places where even NC and PDP have not dared to enter in the interiors of Srinagar city. Sources said Congress is trying to arrange visit of Rahul Gandhi despite his schedule being busy across the country. Rahul will come any day he finds his slot available and the party will coordinate with NC leadership for his campaigning at any two places it deems important from the point of view of NC candidates, said the sources. However, no date has yet been confirmed even as he has given nod for Kashmir visit, sources further said adding that party high command is happy with the way PCC chief is spearheading the campaign in Valley in an aggressive manner for the last two weeks. Sources said PCC chief is working overnight in a manner which even NC leadership is not moving across to places that remain highly volatile and vulnerable on account of situation, Tral and adjacent areas being the recent ones where he was on campaign trail. Sources said PCC chief's aggressive campaigning in favour of Dr Farooq Abdullah -candidate for Srinagar-Budgam constituency is not confined to areas where only Congress has some base and support but venturing into interiors of Srinagar city like Idgah, Zadibal , Hazratbal, areas which are all strongholds of NC. Though Congress support base in Kashmir is far less in comparison to Jammu, yet the leadership is venturing into areas canvassing for NC where its leaders are not at all popular or known to masses. Congress is also faced with limited number of leaders as acceptable or popular faces in various segments, sources said adding that only two out of three sitting ministers are pro actively working in constituencies where support matter to NC. One of the senior ministers Taj Mohi-u-Din, sources said is not pursuing the campaign schedule nor working in tandem with the PCC leadership in so far as campaign schedule is concerned. On the other hand, all COngress leaders who matter-Muzaffar Parray, GN Monga, BA Magray , besides two ministers GA Mir and Peerzada Sayeed are moving on with the campaign programmes in coordination with NC leaders , sources added.
