Militants sole purpose of repeated strikes aimed at to enforce poll boycott call | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 22: The militants strike in Pulwama district of South Kashmir yesterday killing three persons including a Sarpanch, his son and a village head has revealed that militants presence is still high in the district. The strike is not an isolated incident in the district. A few days earlier a sarpanch was kidnapped on April 18 in village Gulzarpora by Hizbul Mujahideen militants and later killed. On Sunday last the militants struck at residence of NC leader peer Yawar at Khrew township of Pampore village in Pulwama district to eliminate the NC leader. Though the leader survived, the militants killed his two security guards. It may be recalled that there were reports of presence of militants majority of them from Pakistan in Pulwama district since last November who made isolated attacks on security forces and police to show their presence. Increased terrorist attacks for last 15 days especially in South Kashmir is aimed at enforcing the poll boycott call first in Anantnag -Pulwama Lok Sabha Constituency which is going to polls on April 24 by terrorizing the people of the Valley. Sources said the people in South Kashmir especially Pulwama district feel scared and in the absence of proper security cover from the Government they will mostly prefer to remain indoors instead taking part in democratic process. Sources said there is public resentment against the authorities and knowing fully there is presence of militants in the district especially in hilly belt of Tral and Khrew the authorities have failed to make combing operations in last six months in the area to flush out the militants from the area. The weak-kneed policies of the Government has provided the oxygen to dying militancy in Kashmir as many terrorist outfits with the aid and abetment from Pakistan have started re-grouping again, sources added. The incidents of repeated terrorist strike have terrorized the people not only in Pulwama district but other districts of South Kashmir including Anantnag, Shopian and Kulgam districts and there is every apprehension of a low polling turnout on April 24 in view these strikes, sources said. Sources said the State Government's half hearted approach coupled with weak-kneed policies of Government of India has given the militancy a new lease of life in Kashmir Valley and in case immediate steps were not taking in launching combing operations the situation will turn worst than 1990. Stressing on increasing vigil and better coordination between security forces and State police sources said that without wasting any time the Government should order combing operations in all those areas wherefrom it has the reports of militants strike and without harming the local people it should fight them to finish failing which the situation will turn more critical in Valley.
