| Campaign against Modi won't help NC to defeat PDP in Kashmir | | Frustration, desperation, fear of defeat | | Rustam
JAMMU, Apr 22: It's unfortunate that NC working president and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is indulging in negative campaigning and launching personal attacks against his political rivals to woo voters in the Valley, instead of seeking the people's mandate for his party candidates, including his own father and outgoing Union Minister Farooq Abdullah, on developmental and governance agenda or placing before the people report card of his coalition government. He has been seeking the people's mandate through his hate campaign against the BJP and its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti.
Omar Abdullah has been accusing the Muftis of flirting with Narendra Modi in order to dilute the so-called special status the state enjoys under Article 370 and dismissing them selfish, power hungry and unscrupulous. So much so, he has been denouncing the PDP as divisive and anti-Kashmir, notwithstanding the fact that there is no fundamental difference in the agenda of his party and that of the main opposition party. His party stands for greater autonomy for the state on the ground that it is Muslim majority and the PDP vouches for self-rule doctrine for the same reason. Both the concepts mean a dispensation outside the political and constitutional organization of India. He has also been dismissing the PDP and the BJP as two sides of one and the same coin overlooking the fact that while the BJP stands for debate and abrogation of the pernicious, anti-people, anti-democratic, divisive, communal, pro-separatist, anti-minority andanti-national Article 370, the PDP stands for the restoration of Article 370 to its original position (read pre-1953 position). There is absolutely nothing that is common between the BJP and the PDP. It is, however, a different story that the PDP leaders, especially Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti, have not been using invectives and epithets against Modi and the BJP. They are political persons and they know what to say and what not to say.
On Monday, the frustrated and desperate Omar Abdullah, who is not really confident of victory of the party candidates, including Farooq Abdullah, or who is fearing defeat at the hands of the PDP candidates crossed all the lines and said he would cross over to Pakistan, but not stopping opposing Narendra Modi. Addressing a gathering at Verinag, which was also attended by Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, JKPCC Chief Saif-ud-Din Soz, NC-Congress candidate for South Kashmir Lok Sabha seat Mehboob Bbeg and NC provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani and former MoS Home, Omar Abdullah said: "They (BJP) have asked people opposing Modi to migrate to Pakistan. Even if I have to do so I won't stop talking against Modi…Thank God, there is bus service for Srinagar-Muzaffarabad. I won't even have to go via Delhi. I will board a bus here and migrate to Pakistan". A senior BJP leader from Bihar Giriraj Singh had said a couple of days ago that those were opposing Modi were the Pakistani agents and there place was not India but Pakistan. (The BJP distanced itself from this statement in no time.)
What Omar Abdullah said yesterday was nothing but a manifestation of his frustration and desperation. No responsible politician uses languages he has been using against Narendra Modi and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and their political parties. The fact of the matter is that Omar Abdullah has brought the discourse to gutter level.
