Workshop on Heritage Education inaugurated

Jammu, Apr 22: A two-day Heritage Education workshop was inaugurated at Government Degree College Udhampur today by Danish Rana, IPS Director Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur whereas Principal of the College Prof. S.S Bhalwal was the guest of Honor. Organised by INTACH Jammu Chapter in collaboration with Heritage Club of the College, the workshop is being attended by many school & college teachers of Udhampur.
It aims at setting up INTACH Heritage Clubs in educational institutions of Udhampur in addition to inculcate awareness and appreciation of the heritage of our city, state and country, motivate teachers to use appropriate resource material in classroom teaching , motivate teaches to play an effective role in sensitizing children about heritage, help teachers to organize hands on activities & to increase the use of multimedia including websites, films, dvds.
Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Heritage Education and Communication Service Division of New Delhi with the support of Ministry of Culture G.O.I has been involved in building a network of Heritage Clubs in Educational institutions throughout the country. The Chief Guest while inaugurating the workshop appreciated the efforts of INTACH as well as Government Degree College Udhampur in organizing this kind of unique workshop in Udhampur District which is full of natural as well as built heritage with rich culture famous throughout the world. Prof S.S Bhalwal in his address said that innovative practices of an institution need to be disseminated to others who have potential of multiplying them.
" This College has been a pioneer in the State to organize activities related to cultural heritage in its Heritage Club and it is heartening to know that our Volunteers have shown immense interest in the activivities of the Club," he added. S. M. Sahni, KAS (Retd.) former Director Tourism, Jammu and presently Convener INTACH Jammu Chapter in his address explained the importance of Heritage and the initiatives of the Government as well as Intach Jammu Chapter in conservation and preservation of the same for future generations, besides economic thrust to the areas having natural built and traditional Cultural Heritage.
