IAF airlifts pregnant woman, injured man from cut off area | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 22 : Army and Indian Air Force (IAF) airlifted a pregnant woman and an injured man from cut off border area of Gurez in north Kashmir. Defence ministry spokesman Lt Colonel N N Joshi said on April 20, a message was received from Gurez that an eight-month-pregnant woman had developed serious complications and needed immediate specalised treatment. He said immediately Army authorities arranged an aerial sortie for evacuating the woman, Zaheera Begum a resident of village Chorwan, Gurez, from Gurez to Bandipora. However, she was later airlifted to Srinagar for further medical treatment. He said in another operation, a resident of village Dawar of Gurez, Abdul Majeed Dar, who had a fractured forearm was airlifted to Bandipora by an IAF MI-17 from Dawar. These areas remained cut off due to accumulation of snow on the roads, connecting them with district headquarters. |
