Jammu-Udhampur NH upgradation project gets delayed by six months | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 8: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) seems to be missing the deadline of completion of Jammu-Udhampur stretch of National Highway, which is being upgraded yet again. The all important road was scheduled to be completed in June 2014 but now the NHAI has set another deadline of December 2014. The 65-km Jammu Udhampur National Highway is being upgraded under North-South corridor project which will go upto Uri in Kashmir valley. This project is having two major tunnels, one at Chenani-Nashri, decreasing the length of highway by 30 kms and another at Banihal to Lower Munda, which will also decrease the length by 25 kms. Besides these, few smaller tunnels are being constructed on Jammu-Udhampur stretch around Nandni which will give easy passage to vehicles moving on the highway. This stretch was scheduled to be completed by June this year but now deadline has been increased and it will be now completed in December. Sources in NHAI told Early Times that it was due to delay in forest clearance that deadline was re-fixed. This stretch of NHAI is being constructed by AFCONS and tremendous work has been done which has smoothened the traffic on the highway. People were expecting that this project may be completed in June as declared by NHAI regional director to some newspapers earlier but now the project has been delayed by six months. "We hope no further hurdles are created in this prestigious project which is the part of dream project of former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This is for the betterment of people of the state as well as rest of the country who visit the state for one or the other reason," said a senior NHAI official. |
