As mercury heats up Jammu faces serious power, water crisis

JAMMU, June 12: The Jammu region is reeling under severe power and water crisis but authorities are showing total unconcern for the same. Soon after the mercury touched the peak this month the Jammu power and water crisis gripped the Jammu forcing people to come to streets launch protest and burn the effigies of Government and the departmental heads.
The power crisis have taken such a critical turn that the metered areas where there were earlier no power cuts and which were getting round the clock power supply have to face eight to 10 hour power cut as per routine for last over one week now while the un-metered areas too are facing 12 to 14 hour power cut daily now alleged people of various localities. Even there is fluctuation in light which has damaged electric gadgets in various localities and the PDD is unable to overcome the problem.
The worsening power and water crisis has forced the people to come to streets in protest. The protestors including the men women and children not only torch the effigies of Government resort to road blockade but also break the pitchers in protest against the water scarcity.
The PHE Department accuse the PDD for water crisis saying that they do not get adequate power supply to run the motors or due to the low voltage the motors can't be run.
There is hardly any day during the last one week when the people din not come to streets in every part of city to protest against the water and power crisis. Today again a massive protest was held by Women Wing of BJP at Parade against both PDD and PHE Departments. The protesters torched the effigy of Government and accused it of its total failure in providing round the clock power supply. The protestors said that the people especially old and infirm have been pt to worst problems due to 12 to 14 hour power ct a day and warned to intensify agitation in case the supply position was not improved.
Another protest was held by irate residents of Barnai -Darmal and Gurah at Barnai.
The protestors blocked Barnai Bantalab road for two hours this morning and torched the effigies of the Government for the acute power and water crisis in the area. Raising slogans against the Government the protestors warned to intensify the agitation in case the immediate steps were not take to solve the problem. Later the road blockade was lifted on the assurance of PHE and Police Officers who visited the area and promised the people that all steps will be taken to better the power and water supply in the area.
A delegation of the protestors also met the Additional DC Jammu and apprised him of their problems. Jammu West Assembly Movement which has also been protesting against the power and water crisis in the city in general and Jammu West Assembly Segment in particular today sought the intervention of authorities in solving the problem immediately.
A delegation of the Movement led by its president Sunil Dimple called on Chief Engineer M&RE and Chief Engineer PHE and apprised them of the problems being faced by the people due to acute power and water crisis.
Dimple warned that people will be forced to launch a massive agitation in case immediate steps were not taken to solve the problem.
