JAMMU, Aug 29: Demand of a Hindu Chief Minister for Jammu and Kashmir, raised by Minister for PHE, Flood Control and Irrigation, Sham Lal Sharma has given sleepless nights to BJP, which always claim to be champion of Hindus' cause. BJP leadership in Jammu and Kashmir has been landed in piquant situation because party can neither support nor oppose this demand. Not only BJP leadership even Congress leadership could not dare to oppose demand raised by Sham Lal Sharma.
Credible sources said that some Kashmir based leaders in the Congress have brought this matter to the notice of the high command but they were snubbed by the leadership because Sham Lal Sharma has not demanded any thing unconstitutional. Some central Congress leaders have reportedly told local leaders that Sham Lal Sharma has only raised a question which is not unconstitutional. There is feeling among Congress leadership, especially those belonging to Jammu region,that effectively taking up this demand during the election campaign would give good dividend to Congress party especially in Jammu region. Some disgruntled Congress leaders, who have soft corner for anti-Indian elements, have opposed Sham Lal Sharma's suggestions but they were not taken seriously by the party leadership. Sources said that Congress leadership has literally given its consent to strongly take up Hindu Chief Minister issue to counter BJP’s attempt to polarize voters during elections.
Credible sources in BJP said that Hindu Chief Minister's demand has forced BJP to form a fresh strategy to counter Hindu card of Congress party. The day when Sham Lal Sharma has given this statement, BJP leaders were thinking that Congress leadership would take action against him but instead of counter Sham's argument, Congress leadership indirectly endorsed him. Now BJP leadership is worried because Hindu Chief Minister issue can be clicked in Jammu region and party would not be in a position to polarize the situation.
BJP leadership is worried because Sham Lal Sharma, has earned credibility as trusted and tested voice of Jammu region. As a Minister in the Government Sham Lal Sharma has proved how to safe Jammu's interests so people have more faith on him instead of BJP MLAs who have earned dubious character as agents of National Conference. BJP leadership is worried that in case Sham Lal Sharma come out openly in favour of this demand, it would be difficult to consolidate Hindu vote bank. |
