Sector-Commander Level Flag Meet: India hopes Pak walks-its-talk, abides ceasefire violation
8/30/2014 12:14:42 AM
Early Times Report
Zero Line, Octroi Post, Suchetgarh, Aug 29: Jammu Frontier Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector General (IG) RK Sharma has expressed hope that Pakistan going by its assurance to walk-its-talk may not rake up further mischief on the border following the sector commander level meet and abide by its word.
He however added that all depends upon the unfolding of the events in the future.
"It is left remain to be seen how Pakistan responds after this commander -sector level meet which has given assurance not to fire any Indian post or village in future. We have also assured them that no fire would be initiated from our side, but have warned also simultaneously that any misadventure from their side would be strongly retaliated," said IG R K Sharma.
He further added that Pakistan was told about the sufficient proofs India had of their unprovoked firing and India only came forward for a sector-commander level meet after the Pakistan requested for that.
However, Pakistan again remained in a denial mode, he added and said, "Let's wait and watch how they act now".
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan since July 16 has been continuously violating the ceasefire and shelling the Indian posts and borders, it has been strongly retaliated by the India forces.
BSF, in the meantime had approached many times to their counterparts for a flag meet to end to the border turmoil to which Pakistan had remained nonchalant.
It was only after strong retaliation from India forces that Pakistan had submitted a request for a sector-commander level Flag meet which was held today at Octroi Post Suchetgarh.
The meeting was one of the longest so far that started at 4.30 pm. and concluded at 8.30. p.m.
"The meeting was held in a very congenial atmosphere. We had listed all the ceasefire violations done by the Pakistan in recent times. And we had met for the same purpose only," said DIG, BSF Kasana of Jammu Sector after concluding the meet at 8.30 p.m.
There has been a flare up on International Border, especially in Arnia and RS Pura sub-sector when BSF Constable Sanjay Dhar was killed in a sniper fire by the Rangers in Arnia area since July 16.
The BSF was led by Jammu sector commander, DIG, BS Kasana and Pakistan Rangers were led by Sialkot sector commander Brigadier Mateen.
Other officers of the BSF included DIG Indreshwar Nagar, RK Gurung, Commandant of 94 battalion , GS Dhaliwal, 127 battalion, Gopal Krishan, 192 battalion, SP Sandhu, 200 Battalion, Himmat Singh, 33 Battalion, Ravesh Kumar, 9 Battalion, OP Upadhaya and five other officers.
Besides Brigadier Mateen, who led the Pak delegation, other officers were Commander of 12 Chenab Rangers, Ibrahim Hussain Naqvi, 12 Chenab Rangers Wing Commander, Mohammed Ali, 19 Desert Rangers commander, Lt Col Waqar Ahmed and nine others.
In total there were 13 officers from each side. A source said that the Rangers refused to accept the sweets which the BSF had taken for them.
