Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 29: Extending further the ambit of its discriminatory policies towards Jammu, the Health and Medical Education Department of Omar government has ordered the promotion of 16 doctors from the rank of assistant professors to associate professors and lecturers to assistant professors in Government Medical College Srinagar while it turned down similar proposal of promotion for seven doctors from Government Medical College Jammu despite the fact that the proposal for the promotion of doctors from GMC Jammu was set to the government one month prior to the proposal of doctors from GMC Srinagar.
Sources said 16 doctors of GM Srinagar were promoted by the Government Health and Medical Education Department on August 5 to the rank of associate professors, assistant professors in their own pay and grade with charge allowance the proposal of whom was submitted in the month of June this year by the Principal GMC Srinagar. Interestingly similar proposal submitted by GMC Jammu in the month of May to Health and Medical Education Department was not considered and file was returned thrice by the Commissioner cum Secretary Health to his subordinate officers with a note to discuss.
Sources said every time when the file went for approval to Secretary and Commissioner it was returned with same note. However, last time the Secretary cum Commissioner straightway turned down the proposal and sought submission of a fresh proposal from the GMC Jammu just for delaying tactics. In the process the promotion of these doctors will get delayed till January next in the light of model code of conduct to be announced by any time next month as elections to State Assembly are slated to be held by end of this year, sources added.
Sources said this is the open discrimination with the Jammu region and has proved that two kinds of rules prevail in the State for the people of the two regions. Sources said that the role of Jammu Ministers has come to severe criticism as they have always failed to seek justice for the region and never took up the issue forcefully. Interestingly the Minister of Health and Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din is from Congress Party which has been given a massive mandate in Jammu region last time.
Sources said the Minister has been always hoodwinking the public opinion on this issue by beating about the bush and protecting his officers who were responsible for such a grave discrimination with the region.
The issue also figured in State Assembly today with BJP MLA Ashwani Sharma expressing his serious concern over the discrimination to which the doctors and Agri technocrats of Jammu region are being subjected.
Not satisfied with the reply of concerned ministers the MLA also stage a walkout in protest and accused the Government of deliberately discriminating with Jammu region.
