Jammu, Oct 8: As the rush of patients to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu (GMC&H) has increased considerably following unprovoked firing from the Pakistani side, leaving many injured, doctors at the premier hospitals have adopted 'shed responsibility and problem fixes itself attitude'.
As per the victims of the cross-firing who got admitted in the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu on the intervening night of October 6-7 after being referred from the Primary Health Care Centre Arnia village at the International Border (IB), doctors at the Premier Health Centre after completing the surgical treatment asked them to vacate the wards and leave to their villages back.
Two patients namely Balbir Raj, 40 years old who received bullet injuries on the hips and Sushma Kumari, both residents of Arnia village and admitted in the Disaster Ward on the intervening night of October 6-7 said that doctors built pressure on them to leave the hospital rooms saying there is a problem as far as admitting the patients in the hospital wards is concerned.
Another patient Jyoti Devi admitted in the Disaster Ward in conversation with Early Times said that she too was forced to leave the hospital after completing the surgical treatments but having serious injury in the legs due to exploding of the mortar shell, she refused to shift to another ward or back home. Some other patients alleged that they were denied CT Scan and other facilities in the hospital.
Superintendent of the Hospital, Ravinder Rattan Pal, who claimed to be in the Disaster Ward of the hospital denied all such allegations and said that proper care is being given to the firing victims and as far as the availability of room, there is no shortage of space in the hospital.
He said some patients whose nature of injury is not serious are being referred to go back home as they can manage some treatment at the District level hospital or the PHCs.
