Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 8: Despite claiming of having restored power supply, half of Jammu City especially Talab Tilloo and its adjoining areas are in complete darkness! Courtesy! Arrogant Executive Engineer of Electric Division No. 3.
Believe it or not but Executive Engineer of PDD for Division no. 3 Balbir Singh Jaggi who is on first posting in Jammu city listens to none but Secretary Power Development Department (PDD) Arun Mehta. Jaggi has worked for most of his service outside Jammu and has relatively no experience of working in capital city and has, hence miserably failed in restoring power on time, said the sources.
They added that Power Secretary Arun Mehta recently transferred him to Jammu and assigned him the critically important Division 3. Those who have served this division do accept that Jaggi had been treating this as some rural pocket of Rajouri-Poonch or like a trouble-torn area of Kashmir valley by giving a damn to the restoration work.
They maintain that Mehta transferred him without even looking into the career graph of Jaggi. "We are surprised at the way this man has been working. He cares little about the pain of people who despite paying huge electricity bills have to face power blues for several hours even if it is minor power failure. He wants his orders to be given due respect and cares little about rest," said an official seeking anonymity.
From Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to Chief Engineers Shehnaz Gohni, sources said that none makes any difference to him and he works on his own whims and fancies. While entire Talab Tilloo and areas adjoining it were in complete darkness and PDD officials were busy in restoration work, Jaggi on being rung up by Chief Engineer Shehnaz Gohni was so annoyed with the call that he asked the entire staff to leave for home and return in the morning to carry on the restoration work.
Sources said that the Chief Engineer wanted him to restore power supply overnight so that people especially old and infirm alongwith toddlers do not have to suffer. An official on the condition of anonymity said "We were told that there was no need to restore power during the night hours. We were told to return only in the morning and restore power supply. We were not allowed to even ensure power supply to vitally important PHE installations of Talab Tilloo and areas adjoining it.”
