Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 8: At a crucial juncture when Jammu is fighting a war like situation, there is tussle for political one-upmanship among Congress leaders to take political mileage of the prevailing situation in this region.
Acting like a leader of this region, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has been conducting whirlwind tour of the areas affected by the firing from across the border. But Azad's detractors in the Congress party are finding it difficult to digest popularity gained by former Chief Minister while visiting these affected areas.
Interestingly, Azad as a tall leader of the Congress had conducted extensive tour of the shelling affected areas of Jammu district along with senior party leaders. Visit of Azad in the affected areas was sufficient to express Congress' solidarity with the sufferer families by Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz today deputed his loyalists in the border areas. Instead of touring these areas with Ghulam Nabi Azad, Soz loyalists conducted their own tour just to get political mileage.
On Tuesday, Soz issued a press note in which he had stated "It is so tragic that Pakistan has repeated firing in the R.S Pura Sector (Jammu). It is so unfortunate that the unwarranted firing has resulted in the killing of 5 persons and injuring 38 persons in Pargwal and Kanachak areas."
"I express my deep anguish at the killing of innocent persons besides causing great loss to property. Such acts are decidedly condemnable. In the meantime, I deputed today, senior Leaders of the JKPCC led by Thakur Hari Singh Vice President to visit these areas and know better the difficulties of the affected people," the statement reads as.
When a Congress Minister along with Ghulam Nabi Azad had visited the affected areas there was no fun to depute senior leaders.
It was only on the directions of Soz that a team was led by Thakur Hari Singh-Vice President PCC alongwith former Ministers Mula Ram -Vice President PCC, R.S. Chib-General Secretary PCC, Indu Pawar-MLA President J&K Pradesh Mahila Congress, Prakash Sharma ,ex-MLA & President District Congress Committee Samba, Hari Singh Chib-Organizing Secretary PCC, Ashwani Puri, Rajiv K Gupta, Neeraj Gupta, Madan Lal Kashap (Secretaries PCC) and Gurdarshan Singh-Chairman PCC Control Room visited some border areas.
