Is Omar seeking re-entry into NDA?
For power

JAMMU, Oct 8: Is the beleaguered NC working president and J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seeking to re-enter the BJP-led NDA so that he and his party remain somewhat relevant in the state? This question assumes importance in view of some of the recent statements Omar Abdullah himself made, the latest being made on October 6 at Jammu. After visiting Arnia, which suffered heavy shelling from across the border and led to the death of five innocent civilians, including two women, and listening to the heart-rending tales from the victims of Pakistani terrorism at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, Omar Abdullah attacked Pakistan and urged one and all to condemn Pakistan in the strongest possible language. He regretted that on the day of Eid, Pakistan, instead of sending greetings, bombard the state to bleed its inhabitants.
But more than that, Omar Abdullah endorsed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stand on dialogue with Pakistan and said that dialogue between the two countries could be possible only if peace was restored. In other words, he said terror and talks could not go together. Not just this, he ridiculed Pakistan by saying that it rakes up Kashmir issue everywhere but fails to garner international support. This precisely is the stand of the new Government in Delhi and it could be taken to mean that Omar Abdullah has turned soft towards the BJP for political reasons.
Omar Abdullah not only endorsed the New Delhi's foreign policy towards Pakistan, but has also commended the efforts of the Modi Government in the flood-hit Kashmir valley and asserted that New Delhi and its agencies did a commendable job in the Valley by rescuing thousands of stranded people. Not just this, he even lambasted Ghulam Nabi Azad when the latter accused the Indian Army of rescuing only the VIPs and leaving the trapped common Kashmiri Muslims to die in the flood waters.
All these instances only serve to demonstrate that Omar Abdullah might seek reentry into the BJP-led NDA. He knows that the Congress is of little or no political value at this juncture and, hence, the NDA a better option. It is a different issue if the BJP would allow its re-entry considering the Omar Abdullah's highly derogatory statements on BJP and its leadership and ideology. But one thing is certain: There is some perceptible change in the attitude of Omar Abdullah towards the BJP, the Prime Minister and the BJP-led NDA Government.
