Bronze medal winner in Asian Games Chain Singh honoured

Jammu, Oct 8: Shooter Chain Singh who won bronze medal in Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions in the 17th Asian Games 2014 held at Incheon, South Korea was honoured by Jammu and Kashmir Rifle Association today honoured .
Returning home after winning the Asian Games bronze, the J&K shooter received to a rousing welcome by the members of Jammu and Kashmir Rifle Association, fans and friends at the Jammu airport today.
Hailing from village Bhalessa in Doda, Chain Singh son of a farmer completed his education and started his career as Sepoy in Indian Army in March, 2007.
During training, Chain Singh expressed his willingness to participate in the Young Blood Championship.
After performing well in the Young Blood Championship, Chain Singh was inducted in the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) as a young blood shooter in February 2008.
During the last seven years, Chain Singh has won 21 gold, 7 silver and bronze medal each in the national level competitions. Besides, he has also won one gold and two bronze medals in the International level competitions.
After being received by the members of the JKRA at Jammu Airport, he was brought to main venue in a procession where an impressive function was organised by the association in honour of the ace shooter of the J&K state.
Welcoming Asian Games bronze medalist, Dr Narinder Bhatial, vice president of JKRA congratulated Chain Singh for winning the bronze medal in the Men's three position event.
He said that the shooter has made J&K state proud which will encourage many more young and budding shooters of the J&K state to follow his footsteps. In his address, Dilbag Singh, ADGP , who is also President, JKRA said "It's a proud moment for the country and J&K state in particular that a shooter from state has won the medal at the Asian Games.
“It is for the first time in history of state, a sportsperson of J&K has won medal in the Asian Games,” he said and adding that I am proud of him and wish he will continue winning medals in the future.
Chain Singh’s medal at the International level has given JKRA an opportunity to request the J&K govt to provide the required infrastructure and facilities to shooters of the state, he added.
"We are delighted with the spirit and commitment Chain Singh has shown in the recently conducted Asian Games. He has made not only us but the entire nation proud," he said.
There is no dearth of talent in J&K state but only need is to nurture the talent. He also assured the shooters of the state that association will leave no stone unturned to provide them the required facilities so that they win medals for the state at national and international level competitions.
On the occasion, an interaction session of shooters of J&K state was organised with Asian medalist Chain Singh.
General Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association who is also chairman affiliation and dispute committee of Indian Olympic Association also congratulated the son of soil, Chain Singh the first medalist of state in Asian Games.
Later, a memento and blazer were also presented to Chain Singh by the president, JKRA Dilbag Singh. Those who were present in the function included DIG AP/IRP Vijay Singh Sambyal, SSP Ahmed Parvez Mirza, SSP JS Johar, Col Anurag Saksena, Senior Vice president KS Jamwal, Vice president Sohan Lal, Joint Secretary Pankaj Sharma, Executive members VS Jamwal, Ashok Sharma, Taranjeet Singh Toni, Rajesh Virdhy, General Secretary Sudhir Kumar, Treasurer Sharat Chander Singh and shooters of the J&K state.
