| e-banking spoils banking in State Bank's Soibugh branch | | | Shakeel A Khan
BUDGAM, Oct 11: For the residents of the Soibugh area in district Budgam, standard banking still remains a dream. The Soibugh branch of the State Bank of India opened decades ago, has failed to come to the expectations of the people.
The bank did a good job till the account details were maintained manually. But the e-banking has not gone down well in the branch. Customers often return dejected.
"Here the flood is no excuse as this branch has failed to keep pace with the changing time and it is a wonder that people living around it, have opened their accounts in other areas. I wonder why this branch of SBI failed to get the facelift despite being the oldest bank operating in our area," said Showkat Ahmad.
Accoeding to him, the top brass of the bank seemingly has no interest in upgrading the branch which can gauged from the fact that most of the customers living very near to it have the accounts in this branch but actually these accounts are dormant for quite a long time now.
Another person namely Mohammad Hayat from Soibugh said that the people have maintained a clear distance from the branch as it has failed to provide the attractive services. Hayat went on saying that it is worth wondering that the customers are sent back without paying cash to them or receiving cash from them.
As per Hayat the cash is accepted but one has to frequent the branch to know that whether the deposited cash has been credited in the customer's account or not, in fact it takes three to four days to clear the dought. The result is that the branch is losing the credibility, thick and fast. The people of the area say that for the population of thousands, the branch has failed to come up with the ATM that would serve the purpose. As according to these people the branch got an ATM installed couple of years before but it worked for only a few days and went out of order. It was after a long time that the out of order ATM was replaced with the new one but that too isn't working for the last few days. The people of the area haven't enjoyed this service in their own area and now they travel the distances to have the access to this facility. |
