Pak again breaks truce on LoC, IB; woman hurt, 10 houses damaged | 'Several injured in ceasefire violations to live with splinters' | | MS Nazki/ Sumit Sharma Poonch/Arnia, Oct 11: Despite the tough talk by India, Pakistan today again broke the truce and resorted to heavy shelling and gunfire from across the Line of Control (LoC) as a result of which a woman was wounded critically and 10 houses were damaged in Kirni sub-sector of Poonch. The shelling and heavy arms fire, which started at about 12.35 pm, continued till 5 pm. On the LoC, Pakistan resumed shelling after two days. On the IB, the shelling stopped a day back. Official sources said Pak troops resorted to heavy shelling and gunfire, targeting villages and 10 forward posts in Shahpur, Kirni-I and Kirni-II sub-sectors of the district at about 12.35 pm. India retaliated effectively to the unprovoked Pak fire, the sources informed. Sources said in the explosion of a shell in Kirni village, Salma Bi sustained severe injuries. She was admitted to the district hospital, Poonch. At least ten houses also suffered damages in the enemy action, the sources added. Sources said a round-the-clock vigil was being maintained all along the LoC and troops had not lowered their guard even after the Pak firing stopped two days back. The 24x7 vigil along the LoC would continue, sources asserted. The exchange of shells and gunfire between the two sides continued for nearly four and a half hours. Casualty, if any, on the Pak side was yet to be ascertained, sources said. IB: After a one day's lull, Pakistan again resorted to firing on border posts (BoP) in Arnia sector in late hours of Saturday. As per reports, Pakistan resorted to firing on three border posts namely Chinaz, Tent and Pittal with the intention to extend damage maximum to the civilians. However, the administration had already shifted the people to the camps at safer place. The BSF jawans were retaliating the same. SP Headquarters Rajinder Singh when contacted confirmed the reports and said that retaliation on the part of India was also in progress. No loss of life and economic was reported till last reports poured in. Meanwhile, life will never be same for some of those injured in the cross-border firing as they will have to live with the splinters inside their bodies as it was not medically feasible to remove them, doctors say. Over 60 injured admitted at the GMC&H Jammu have received splinter injuries in various parts of their bodies, the hospital officials said. "It is not possible to remove all the splinters from the body of the people who were injured in the ceasefire violation," said Dr Mohinder Singh a surgeon treating the victims of the cross border shelling at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu. He said that the procedure to remove these splinters would involve greater risk to the lives of these patients. "The procedure to remove these splinters from the body of the injured involves greater risk to these patients, as the procedure can damage their nerves and blood vessels," said Dr Singh. The doctors say that the patient would feel the presence of the splinter inside their body throughout their lives, but these won't cause any further harm to them. "After sometime a mass of tissue engulfs these splinters, thus forming a cushion around it," said the doctor. The doctors say that only the splinters, which pose the 'risk to life' for the injured, are the ones that are removed. |
