NC counting days for its 'misrule' to end | Says will abide by ECI decision on polls | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 11: The ruling National Conference, which is counting days for its "misrule" to end in JK, today gave up its stubbornness to postpone the forthcoming assembly elections in the state saying, if Election Commission of India decides to holds polls on time it would abide by the decision. NC's provincial president for Kashmir Nasir Aslam Wani while talking to a Srinagar based news agency said, "We don't want the elections to be held at this point of time as people are finding it hard to come at terms with life after the floods ravaged the Valley." Sources told Early Times it was conveyed to NC that if it's not interested in participating in polls it should boycott the elections and allow other parties to go ahead. "Following the development NC decided to fall in line," a source added. "NC is fearing that it would suffer worst ever defeat in the forthcoming LA polls as its leaders and activists have lost interest and they know it very well that they have already lost the ground. The party wanted the elections to get postponed to get some time to regroup its disgruntled workers and leaders. If polls are held on time it would spell doom for NC at least in Kashmir," said a source. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Since the day Omar Abdullah came into power Kashmiris have witnessed lot of devastation and the floods have proved to be the last nail in the coffin of NC-Cong coalition." The senior NC leader Dr Mustafa Kamaal said that elections should be postponed as it would be difficult for the security establishment to provide security in the midst of the winter months in Kashmir. Pertinently, Dr Kamaal during the past six years has left no stone unturned to castigate Army and the security agencies whenever, any militant attack used to take place he used to appear on TV channels and claim that this is the handiwork of the Indian security agencies operating in Kashmir. It seems Dr Kamaal too has sensed defeat that's why he trying to take refuge behind the security agencies, which he on many occasions has claimed are the enemy no. 1 of Kashmiris.
