DLSA Core Group reaches out to flood, landslide affected people

Udhampur, Oct 11 : Continuing with its endeavor to reach out to all the people affected by heavy and incessant rains which lashed almost the entire District of Udhampur, the Core Group Constituted for the purpose by the Chairman District Legal Services Authority (DSLA) Udhampur by R N Wattal visited the raisn and landslides affected area of District Udhampur in order to assess the grievances of the natural disaster and the rescue and relief measures being undertaken by the Government and the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
Headed by Jatinder Singh Jamwal, Chief Judicial Magistrate Udhampur , the members of Core-Group visited the villages including Ramnagar , Chenani and Majalta tehsil's of district and found that the Niabat Ghordi is the worst affected area, after the Village Saddal in Tehsil Mongri in terms of loss of property as many as 604 houses have been are damaged in the area including 43 fully damaged and 298 severely damaged houses. The Core-Group also visited Tehsil Majalta where it met a large number of people, including Panchs and Sarpanchs of villages who apprised that as many as 347 houses are damaged in the Tehsil out of which 75 are fully damaged. Similarly, the Core-Group also visited Tehsil: Chenani and met number of people at Chenani .
One of the main complaints made by almost all the affected people, whose houses are damaged and are not fit for human dwelling yet they have not been provided with alternate accommodation in the shape of tents etc. Core Group also noticed that many schools are functioning in unsafe buildings and the possibility of any mishap as a result thereof was not ruled out. The failure of the power department to restore the power was also brought to the notice of the Core-Group.
The biggest problem and complaint which was made by inhabitants of all these areas as also the people staying in the Relief Camp at Panjar, set up for inhabitants of the worst affected village of Saddal, is that so far the free ration as directed by the State Government vide its Order No. 03-Rev (Camp) of 2014 dated 17/09/2014 has not been supplied to them.
The grievances highlighted by the affected people before Core Group have been communicated to the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur and it has been impressed upon the Administration that the matter may be taken up with the concerned Departments and agencies so that the grievances of the affected people are redressed, at the earliest.
