Hamid alleges Govt for ignoring ST in appointing PSC members | | | Jammu, Oct 11: People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Chief Election Coordinator for Jammu Province, Abdul Hamid Choudhary today said that state government completely ignored Scheduled Tribe (ST) while appointing members of the State Public Services Commission (PSC). He said that a due representation to the community could have been an honour but the government didn't do much about it. He said that PSC after the retirement of former Chairman SL Bhat and all other members except one was lying defunct since September last. There were many able and credible people who could have been chosen to be appointed as member of PSC from the ST community which government did not care for, he regretted. A number of Constitutional provisions exist for protection and promotion of the interests of these weaker sections. In conformity with the Directive Principles of State Policy, social justice has been an avowed goal of development besides a variety of programmes have been launched with the objective of improving the socio-economic condition of Scheduled Tribes. These measures, Coudhary Hamid said have, no doubt, yielded results but not commensurate with the efforts or the needs of the target groups for which coalition government should have appointed at least one member of PSC from the community. While appointing Chairman and six new members of Public Service Commission (PSC) for a term of 5 years at least one member could have been from ST community. |
