SMVDU, IVF jointly organize bi-annual campaign 'Save Trikuta Mountains'

Katra, Oct 11: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) in collaboration with International Volunteer Foundation (IVF) continued with their bi-annual awareness campaign series on the theme "Save The Trikuta Mountains" Phase -II and a rally of students was flagged off to generate awareness among people.
According to spokespeson, at the onset of today's programme Prof S K Jain, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, Katra flagged off a rally of students from university campus. The rally is scheduled to march towards Bhavan with an objective for making environment of Trikuta plastic free.
He said," On the way, volunteers conducted cleanliness drive extending the message of "Swaccha Bharat Abhiyaan" a nationwide launched campaign by the Prime Minister of India.
Volunteers also interacted with hundreds of tourists, shopkeepers, locals etc and sensitized them about their responsibility to keep the environment clean and green which is an integral part of human life. Amid slogans like "Hum Sab Ka Yeh Nara Hai, Trikuta Ko Bachana Hai, Aao Milke Trikuta Sajayein, Save Tikuta, Save Tomarrow" etc, the ralliest were carrying placards depicting slogans regarding cleanliness and also distributed pamphlets to pilgrims highlting the cause of cleanliness
Earlier addressing the volunteers, Vice- Chancellor, SMVDU, encouraged the young volunteers to shoulder the responsibilities of keeping their environment healthy and clean. Dr V KTripathi, NSS Coordinator also spoke on the occasion and said that cleanliness is next to Godliness and called upon the students to realize the importance of Shivalik range which is one of the hubs of Bio-diversity.
Kiran Kumar Sharma, social worker and Chairman IVF threw light on the worsening conditions of Trikuta Mountains due to irresponsible acts from the part of tourists and native dwellers. He urged the Shrine Board to come up with effective steps such as use of latest technology of waste management, promotion of sanitation, stimulating the pollution control board and participation of locals to maintain the beauty and dignity of this holy place. He also said that the print and electronic media can play a key role in awakening the public to be conscious of their duties towards environment.
Ripu Daman Parihar, a research scholar and IVF state head Punjab was also present on the occasion, whose presence motivates the students. The senior NSS volunteers from the university campus were also present on this occasion.
