18-metre pink condom errected in Sydney park 11/7/2014 11:07:43 PM Agencies Sydney, Nov 7: An Australian group has covered an obelisk in Sydney's Hyde Park with an 18-metre tall bright pink condom to raise awareness about HIV prevention. The display by ACON, the AIDS Council of New South Wales, targets gay men in particular because recent polling has shown the number of gay men who don't always use a condom during casual encounters has increased by 20% in the past 15 years. "We need to constantly find new ways to promote this message," ACON CEO Nicolas Parkhill said in a release. "This installation is sure to create lots of interest as we've selected a very visible icon in a high-traffic area. We're hoping to turn lots of heads as well as raise a few eyebrows." The pink condom went up on Friday and will remain in place until Wednesday. While the condom got attention by passersby and on social media, Wendy Francis, a director with the Australian Christian Lobby, called it "disgusting."
