NC workers 'dishonour' mandates, refuse to work for party candidates | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 7: National Conference (NC) which is losing leaders one after the other is in for more trouble with workers refusing to honour the mandates distributed by the party leadership in various constituencies of the state. They are already up in arms against the party leadership and have been openly refusing to accept the dictates of the two Provincial Presidents, i.e. Devinder Singh Rana and Nasir Aslam Wani. What makes the matter worse is that the two presidents are also contesting candidates for Nagrota and Amira Kadal constituencies. Both know importance of winning from the respective constituencies respectively and are also aware of the consequences, in case, they fail to win. Of the two, Rana is stretching to all possible limits to win from Nagrota. If NC insiders are to be believed, Rana has stopped going to the party headquarters and is spending most of the time in his constituency, canvassing for votes. They added that since Rana is out, those who have got mandate are facing an uphill task in convincing workers and forcing them to be part of the election campaign even if they are against the mandate announced by the party. Citing examples, sources said that NC candidate for Gandhinagar constituency Surinder Singh Bunty despite making all possible efforts is not getting support from the workers, especially the ones who were expecting announcement of mandate in their favour. Referring him as an outsider, sources said that the workers have been openly saying that they oppose the candidate tooth and nail. They are holding meetings privately and telling ordinary workers not to attend meetings being organised by Bunty and his associates. They further said that even the candidate for Jammu-East Bimla Luthra is facing the same scenario with one group of workers backing her and other working against her. Sources further said that two local leaders of NC are working over-time for BJP candidate Rajesh Gupta in Jammu-East, doing all kind of propaganda against Luthra and publicity for Gupta. They added that they are even asking Muslim voters to vote for PDP and not NC in Jammu-East. Sources further said that a huge chunk of workers in Rajouri are up in arms against party decision to field old Hawk Mirza Rashid. They wanted a retired Judge to be given the mandate against BJP's formidable bet Choudhary Talib Hussain, PDP's Choudhary Qamar and Shabir Khan of Congress. The party decided against giving mandate to the retired Judge who, according to sources enjoyed considerable influence in Rajouri Assembly segment. Sources further said that disappointed workers of NC are crossing over to BJP and PDP. Bhaderwah and Inderwal, where mandates have been given to Dr. Riaz Bhaderwahi and Salaam Choudhary, on the express recommendations of District President Doda Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardhy, sources said that workers are annoyed that those who had been working in the field for the last 5 years were told straightway not to even think of getting mandate. They crossed over to BJP, PDP and Congress. Sources affirmed that the two candidates are not even in contention in both the constituencies. Workers affirm that both are likely to lose badly. They said that NC district body for the last six years did nothing to strengthen the party in district but became alive the day party started searching for candidates. Annoyed, the workers said that they would vote for PDP and Congress but not NC. Same is the case in most of the other constituencies where NC has announced the mandate, said the sources. They maintained that party will have to retrospect seriously after the election results are declared. Restructuring is a must and those who work should be anointed and appointed to various party posts, said a senior party worker. |
