Everything goes against NC | | | Bashir Assad Early Times Report srinagar, Nov 7: With people from all walks of life entering the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the morale of the party is all time high. Dozens of credible political and social workers are joining the PDP on daily basis which adds to its confidence. Contrary to this dozens of workers are leaving National Conference again on daily basis which further impacts its moral which is already low. PDP leaders and workers are quite enthused about the situation as everything seems falling in their scheme of things. Joining of former Chief Secretary and NC veteran, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool had certainly brightened the prospects of the party in Ganderbal constituency. According to the political observers Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's decision not to contest from Ganderbal has already shaken the confidence of the local NC workers. Now as Sheikh joins PDP, the setback to NC is evident and inevitable. Qazi Mohammad Afzal, the PDP candidate from Ganderbal was surrounded by several controversies in the past but the way events are unfolding in the constituency, he has become the favourite. NC on the other hand is facing deep crisis in Ganderbal as the party workers refuse to accept the new entrant, Sheikh Ishfaq Jabar as their candidate. It is realy a big challenge for Ishfaq to take on board the real NC workers. Secondly the popular perception that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed will be the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir is also working in Ganderbal. Eyewitness in Haji Yousuf custodial death case, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat has already resigned from NC followed by another local leader, Sheikh Ghulam Ahmad Salora and now Sheikh Ghulam Rasool speaks volumes about all is not well within NC in Ganderbal. Though Omar's decision of not fighting from Ganderbal was admission of the Party's erosion in this prestigious constituency, however, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool's joining PDP will have a huge impact. According to the observers, only miracles could save NC as everything is going against it in this prestigious constituency. A senior NC leader told Early Times on the conditions of not to be named that retaining Ganderbal under these circumstances would amount to retaining the power. "You know how difficult it is to bounce back," said the leader. He said that though the party was very careful in distributing tickets but it is challenging to fight back the anti incumbency. Senior PDP leader and chief coordinator, Zafer Iqbal Manhas said the party is on high moral ground while as NC is completely demoralised. "There is no comparison, they (NC) are missing on ground, they will be completely white washed," said Zafar. |
