Bhim opposes ministers' presence in Jammu
Issueless JKNPP like NC, unhappy with election schedule

JAMMU, Nov 7: It is not just the ruling National Conference (NC) that is unhappy with the announced election schedule for Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) and it is a compulsion that has left the NC with no other option but to participate in the ongoing election process in the state. The so-called Jammu-centric J&K National Panthers Party (JKNPP) is also sailing in the boat in which the unpopular NC is sailing. The PDP, the BJP and the under-attack or at-the-receiving-end Congress were the only parties which welcomed the decision of the Election Commission to hold assembly elections on time.
Chief patron of the JKNPP, Bhim Singh, who is known more for his vague, ridiculous and misleading statements on every issue than for undertaking any real political activity in the state, the other day virtually described the announced election schedule as a conspiracy hatched by J&K Chief Minister and NC working president Omar Abdullah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. No sane person would endorse this atrocious view of Bhim Singh.
The Election Commission of India took the final call only after a proper assessment and meeting with all the major political players, including the NC. Of course, the NC expressed the view that the time was not opportune to hold election in the state as it was devastated by floods, but it took no time in endorsing the decision of the ECI and expressing its willingness to go to the polls, notwithstanding the fact that it is nowhere on the election scene. The Election Commission had pointed out while taking decision to hold elections in J&K that only 800 to 900 persons were living in make-shift tents, only few areas of the state, including the Valley, had suffered because of floods, and that the elections could be held on time. Significantly, while the NC accepted the ECI's decision, Bhim Singh didn't. Instead, he condemned the ruling NC and accused it of being an agent of Prime Minister Modi. "The BJP and the NC have entered into a secret alliance for upcoming polls", he said, adding that Omar Abdullah "has become the leading election campaigner of the right-wing party in Jammu and Ladakh regions". "The atmosphere in the flood-hit Kashmir was not conducive for the polls. However, after Omar Abdullah met Prime Minister, the Election Commission of India announced polls within days. It was because both (CM and PM) had agreed on certain terms and entered into a secret alliance…Despite entering into secret alliance, both the parties would win only three to four seats in the polls. The BJP cannot achieve its mission 44+," he also said. His statement was not based on facts; it was based on heresy. Bhim Singh only became an object of ridicule by making a statement no one would believe in and his statement against the scheduled elections also proved that his outfit, like the NC, had little or no chance in the assembly elections. Bhim Singh not only sung the Omar tune, but he also lambasted ministers and MLAs, saying they left the flood-ravaged people of Kashmir in the lurch and instead, enjoyed luxuries in Jammu, as if flood fury had not caused any damage to Jammu. "The government ran to Jammu when it was much needed in Kashmir. The Ministers and MLAs are enjoying luxuries in Jammu leaving the flood hit families at the mercy of God," he said. Yes, there were a few ministers and MLAs, who toured the certain affected areas in Jammu, but this could not be the reason for censuring them. After all, the people of Jammu had also suffered extensive damage and lost more valuable lives. Nearly 200 persons had lost their lives across Jammu province and the total number of deaths record in the state was about 225. It appears Bhim Singh doesn't want his party to repeat its 2008 performance. How else should one interest his statements, which show that he is afraid of facing the electorate even of Samba, Udhampur and Ramnagar.
