South Kashmir defies Mirwaiz's protest call | | | Early Times Report ANANTNAG, Nov 7: Distressed with devastating floods, people in southern Kashmir outrightly defied the protest call of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and went about their business as usual today. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led Hurriyat Conference had called for a protest after Friday prayers urging lawyers and clerics of masques to lead the rallies against the Chatergam killings but it seems Mirvaiz's Hurriyat is fast losing touch with the masses in Valley as none of the lawyer and religious cleric in South Kashmir protested on his call. Reports said that a single demonstration wasn't organized in South Kashmir while as region also defied the strike call of amalgamon Thursday. "Shops and establishments remained open on Thursday in Anantnag and Kulgam and the affect of strike call was almost nil, while as the people of the twin districts today also defied the protest call of Hurriyat." A police officer told early Times. Locals accused the moderate friction of separatist camp was exploiting the killings for their vested interests. They said that separatists were earning their bread and butter out of the strike and protests calls. "All of them are corepati, own hotels, luxury houses, land at tourists destinations, have business in Dubai because of our strikes and protests." Mohmmad Abbas, a Kulgam resident said. He said, "Our youth are risking lives by protesting on their calls but they are earning out of it." "What will happen with sloganeering, or blocking the road? Instead of it civil society must plan a comprehensive strategy for dealing with these issues" he suggested. In Anantnag, a lawyer said that Mirvaiz's Hurriyat has lost its credibility. "I am not the only one who defied his call, In fact my colleague who daughter is doing her MBBS free of cost in Pakistan because of the Mirvaiz Umar Farooq also defied his call." He argued, facilities that were meant for poor are availing influential. He said that at a time when floods have devastated Kashmir it isn't justified to issue protest calls for petty issues but as the same time Kashmiris will not accept the bloodshed. |
