Sham, Madan accelerate poll campaign, seek votes on development

Akhnoor, Nov 7: Senior Congress leader and Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma and his brother former Member Parliament and veteran Congress leader, Madan Lal Sharma today addressed mammoth election meeting at Mera Mandrian in Akhnoor constituency and sought support for Congress from the Akhnoor segment.
Local Congress leader Captain Nasib Singh and other cadre was also present on the occasion.
Seeking support for his candidature, the Minister for PHE urged the people to vote for him so that the development initiatives taken by him are completed. He said development is the only agenda of Congress party and his personal and people should endorse the same.
Sharma Lal Sharma said during his two stints he made tireless efforts to develop all areas of the constituency, which remained neglected for over four decades by successive representatives. He said the Mera Mandrian and other adjoining panchayats received special attention being backward areas.
Listing the development initiatives undertaken by him during his two stints as MLA in the area, the Minister said that three major bridges were constructed over river Chenab to create direct link with Reasi, Katra and several villages across the river Chenab.
Highlighting his achievements for the welfare of people, he said, "This road link has opened direct link of people who otherwise used to take long route of Jammu or Pouni-Bhamla. "The Akhnoor-Mera Mandrian-Reasi road was re-modeled to pave way for a sustainable alternate route for Reasi-Katra, he said adding, "this has also shortened a substantial distance for the passengers opting to go to Reasi-Katra from the localities failing between Jammu-Akhnoor etc."
Drawing attention of the people on the creation of exclusive tehsil headquarter, Niabat and CD Block at Mera Mandrian, the Minister said that this is the biggest achievement for the areas, adding that this has opened new vistas of development and prosperity for the people of this area.
He also accredited party and his since efforts for upgradaton of high school as higher secondary school, Mera Mandrian, construction of lift irrigation schemes, separate tube-wells to augment the drinking water scenario, setting up of Navodhaya Vidhyalaya, State level Government Ayurvedic College and Divisional level Government Nursing Colleges at the neighbor of Mera -Mandrian which will help the locals in a big way and these are the far-reaching projects.
Urging the people to support his candidature purely on the basis of merit and development, the Minister said the public representatives are chosen to create better public facilities, which he has done with honesty and dedication. The performance speaks on ground and people must judge it by themselves before going to polls, he added.
While mentioning massive development as ensured in this belt with the relentless efforts of MLA and Minister, Sham Lal Sharma, the former Congress MP Madan Lal Sharma in his address asked the people to visit to other constituencies to see and compare the development scenario with them and then exercise their voting right. He said, he himself also arranged huge funds from the Centre for the development of this area as MP and asked the people to repeat the candidature of Sham Lal in the assembly elections.
Earlier, both the leaders opened Congress election office at Mundh to give impetus to the election activities. People vowed to elect Mr Sham, maintaining that unprecedented development undertaken during his tenures does not even allows thinking for any other candidate.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included, Milkhi Ram, Shakti Ram Sharma, S. Bachan Singh, Smt. Vijay Jamwal, Sain Dass and several Panchs of the area.
