Kulgam, Nov 13: A fierce gunfight between militants and army broke out this evening in Kulgam district, an official told Early Times. He said after receiving specific input about the presence of two LeT militants in Chinargam village, police's Special Operation Group along with Army's 1RR and 18 battalion of CRPF cordoned off the area. Militants fired upon the forces when they were conducting searches in the village triggering a fierce gun battle, he added. Exchange of fire was going on between the militants and security forces, a local resident of the village told over phone. He said that forces have blown up the cow shed where the militants had taken refuge initially. "Now it seems they have changed their positions as after the forces blew up the cowshed, militants resumed firing," he added. Sources said the militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit had planned to disrupt the polls by attacking political workers. Pertinently, militants yesterday attacked a BJP candidate in the same district. They also fired upon a CPI(M) workers before couple of days.
