Azad triggering revolt in Congress for quid pro quo | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 13: It may sound incredible but is true that former Union Minister and most acceptable Chief Ministerial candidate of Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad is triggering revolt in the party at the time when State elections are going on amidst a Modi wave swaying all around Jammu and Kashmir. After being denied party mandate, three former Ministers among five staunch loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad have so far announced to contest Assembly elections as Independent candidates thus raising a banner of revolt in the party. After Yogesh Sawhney, Gharu Ram Choudhary and Arun Sharma, former Chief Secretary and Power Minister in then Ghulam Nabi Azad-led coalition Government, BR Kundal today announced to contest Assembly elections as independent candidate. According to the sources in Congress circles, these senior leaders are likely to be followed by more Azad loyalists in raising the banner of revolt against the party decision of denying mandate to them in Assembly elections. While BR Kundal was staking claim for the party mandate from RS Pura Assembly constituency, Yogesh Sawhney, Gharu Ram Choudhary and Arun Sharma were the aspirant from Jammu-East, Suchetgarh and Vijaypur, respectively. The Congress has announced party mandate to Suman Bhagat, Vikram Malhotra, RS Chib and Manjeet Singh from these seats. These leaders have raised the banner of revolt on the instance of their godfather Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is sulking over his ignore by the party high command in final selection of Congress candidates for Jammu Kashmir Assembly polls, sources explained. As the Azad- favourites were ignored for a mandate on number of seats, sources added that more people from this faction are likely to revolt in the forthcoming days thus trying to send a message of discontent to the party high command against Pradesh Congress Committee president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, who is learnt to have played major role in getting them out from the final selection list. Even as Prof Soz and the party high command have so far maintained a silence over these developments, sources said that the drama of revolt is being enacted for some quid pro quo, most likely on important positions in the organization where Azad lobby has little say. Pertinent to mention here that Ghulam Nabi Azad had come out of the Congress Parliamentary Board meeting after he felt ignored in final selection of party candidates for the majority of seats in Jammu Kashmir. Azad was virtually humiliated again by the high command, which announced list of party candidates when he was on way to Delhi for pleading the case of his loyalists in the poll panel. |
