Jammu, Nov 13: Former Chief Secretary and NC MLC Sheikh Gulam Rasool, who was dubbed as "deadwood" and "opportunistic" by Omar Abdullah on twitter along with Ajatshatru Singh who joined BJP a few days back, has justified his resignation from the party alleging that he was neglected in the party despite his hard work which even helped Omar to gain landslide victory in Ganderbal in 2008.
In his resignation letter, a copy of which is with Early Times, Rasool has mentioned that after more than three decades of satisfactory service in Government, he joined NC in 1996 in deference to the wishes of Dr Farooq Abdullah and his close associates to lend helping hand for the reconstruction of the state after it had faced overall destruction due to militancy.
"While I could not succeed in my endevours in the absence of any organizational or administrative structure, I, however, remained steadfast with the party so much so that I had the privilege to what you described as the "Architect of your success in Ganderbal" in 2008 with landslide majority as against very humiliating defeat of 2002-thanks to warm response of people of Ganderbal and hard work of party workers. During your stewardship of past six years, I again didn't get occasion even of consultative nature either in state affairs or in Ganderbal matters, organizational or administrative", he said.
He has mentioned in the letter that though he discharged his functions as MLC by maintaining a close contact with the people of Ganderbal and field workers of the party by intensive and regular tours and mass contact programmes.
"As the party affairs in Ganderbal have deteriorated and people alienated, I could not accept the party mandate to contest elections in Ganderbal offered by Dr Farooq and you through senior party leaders a few days back. Keeping in view these factors and overall situation of the party, I am of the considered opinion that it is time for me to disassociate myself completely from the party and accordingly I resign from the primary membership of the party and as a member of the central working committee. I am thankful to Dr Sahib and to you for all courtesies during long 20 years in the party and pray for the speedy recovery of Dr Farooq Abdullah", the resignation letter reads.
Pertinently it was Qazi Afzal of PDP who defeated Omar Abdullah in the year 2002 from Ganderbal constituency and was awarded a berth in the Cabinet as PHE Minister during the tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as Chief Minister of the state from 2002-2005. Later, it was Sheikh Ghulam Rasool whose endeavors had led to the landslide victory of Omar Abullah in 2008 when he became the Chief Minister with Congress as coalition partner.
