Omar's close aide used accused Cop as `hit man'
Role of police in Pathribal killings

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 13: Silencing all the critics including the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, the army in a landmark decision has sentenced personnel involved in Machil fake e counter to life imprisonment.
The Chief Minister raked up the issue time and again but never made a mention of Pathribal killings and the perpetrators. The events that led to the killings merit special mention here. A few days after the Chittisinghpora massacre which left scores of persons from a particular community dead, the police led by Omar's `hit man' claimed killing of five `foreign' militants who were involved in the above mentioned massacre.
The Killed militants, however, turned out to be local civilians who were arrested from different parts of Anantnag district by the police.
The killings evoked severe reaction across Kashmir but Dr Farooq and Omar Abdullah preferred to remain silent for reasons best known to them
The police escaped action under law notwithstanding the fact that it had owned responsibility and taken credit for killing the five innocent persons.
One of the reasons cited for Government inaction is the use of the police officer who played a vital role in the fake encounter as a hit man by a close aid of Omar Abdullah. The officer was used by Omar's close aide to silence, rather crush his opponents in the state especially in Jammu.
This `special relation' it is believed, prevented Omar to order probe into the role of police in Pathribal killings. He always played to the galleries seeking stern action against the army.
