Srinagar, Nov13; As elections to eight seats of Srinagar draw nearer, about 1,200 fake voters in the sensitive 21-Khanyar assembly segment have been traced. Early Times is in possession of a list of around 825 such entries in the voter lists of Khanyar assembly segment. These voters are either non-existent or have appeared in the list at more than one place. The list which is reproduced below clearly shows that around 300 voters are registered in the revised voter list at more than one place interestingly at separate polling stations. There are at least 1200 fake entries in the revised voter list of the Khanyar constituency. A resident of a particular locality also exists on another voter list of a different locality falling under the jurisdiction of another polling station. Among the fake entries, there is a sizable number of women voters who are being traditionally used as mobile voters in the city for many years now. Each allegedly bogus voter is carrying more than one photo identity card issued by the electoral officers. The alleged scandal came to the fore when a particular political party was scrutinizing the voter list to file the objections. However, they were taken by surprise on noticing that hundreds of voters were registered in more than one voter list. The list in possession of Early Times shows that a woman registered in one photo-generated voter list also exists figures in another list with same name and photo identity. Number of such double entries in the electoral roll of Khanyar constituency runs in hundreds. Then is another category of allegedly bogus voters. There are around 800 such voters who could not be traced in Khanyar constituency. These are actually non-existent voters. According to some people, this was being allegedly done by some people in the government for certain considerations. "We've seen people voting but we didn't recognize them," Abdul Majid Matoo whose electronic voting card showed him a female by the name 'Firdausa'. "This is nothing but a mockery of elections. I don't know why the government is allowing fake voters to vote," he added. When contacted, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah said he had not received any complaint about the issue so far. "I will take appropriate action if the matter is brought to my notice" he added. |
