Poonch, Nov 13: With the concerted action of the District Administration Poonch and Army, all types of traffic movements on the Strategic Sher-e-Kashmir Bridge resumed today after District Development Commissioner Poonch, M H Malik formally inaugurated the Bridge in the presence of Commander Poonch Brigade, Navdeep Singh Brar. Among prominent present on the occasion included Police Observer, Election Commission of India, Kumar Subramaniam and Senior Superintendent of Police, J S Johar. Pertinent to mention that the normal traffic to Poonch had been diverted via Kalai Bridge as a portion of approach road to Sher-e-Kashmir Bridge had been washed away in flash floods in the first week of September this year. "Since then the PWD (R&B) along with the Army engineers launched a joint restoration operation and restored traffic temporarily on this bridge, spokesperson said adding, "Two Bailey Bridges of 100 feet each have been laid on the river bed to ensure temporary restoration". DDC Poonch has lauded Army for their cooperation in temporary restoration of the bridge and said that the permanent restoration work is being executed on war footing. |
